To catch a fish you need a fish

Amazing!
I being a lacto-vegan, the fish is an alien thing in my world. Today our Kuriakose (the boss) had a strange plan of ‘fishing’. Though he had no idea of fishing – he being a great eater of fish and supposedly good cook of fish – haven’t caught a fish by himself so far! but we reserved the day for fishing. We started our day, putting rest of the commitments aside, gave more thought for a good catch.
We set out in search of accessories for a descent catch. We went to Bandar area, made (re)search for the fishing. We got directed to a shop which sold us all that required. We bought simple hook (which didn’t had eye), fish alikes (plastic ones) and nylon (which were truly no-run) threads. That’s it. We have to cross the river – Gurupura to reach the so called fishing site.
We made a point to ask some fishermen about the place, timing and method to be followed.

We got to know that you can’t catch a fish with only hook. You need a bait. That lure has to be a squid (bondas)! So we searched for bondas in the main fish market. The people over there, being very generous gave us enough squids (mostly full or parts of it). We collected some more red colored fish (name?) for our satisfaction.
When we indeed reach our site – an estuary of Netravati River, where we expected fishes in plenty, it was deserted, and we were the only people around, probably it decreased the competition in fishing! We started with great enthu, that in a short while we were successful in tangling the thread. By the time I was working out the snarl, boss was ready with the hook, fixed with bondas, lure a shark! Only after he has thrown the bait, it was evident that he was an amateur. He prepared another one with an artificial fish, and the first bait was eaten by some ‘stray fishes’, we manipulated the thread back to shore, between the rocks. In one such subsequent retro-navigation we lost the hook (+bait). The boss was about to throw the second lure (this time artificial fish), he gave a thread to me; he threw it; I too left the thread! The bait, the weight, the float including the thread became a part of Arabian sea and sea didn’t coughed it out for long time.

We changed the place; went to a location where there are no rocks – it was just the plain shore with too much of sand in the water. We tried some more amateur throws in it. All this in the bright afternoon between 12 pm and 3 pm. Sun was the lone spectator of this. Even he got bored, probably; started staring with fierce eyes. Finally we packed up, started return journey.

Paulo Coelho got an exception – ‘there was no beginners luck for us’.
